I was 5’3” and 230 pounds. Naturally, I was worried. Worried about my health and about the possibility of having to take medication for my cholesterol or my blood pressure if I didn’t get my act together.
At first, I started to watch what I ate. But the big change came when my daughter signed us up for a 5k. I knew I needed to get serious. I joined Midtown and prepared myself through:
Daily walks, and eventually runs, on the treadmill
Personal training sessions
Not only did I lose 104 pounds, but I finished my first 5k in under 40 minutes. Since then I’ve run ten more races, and sometimes I even place among the top runners. If my daughter hadn’t signed us up for that first 5k… well, I don’t really want to think about that.
