JUNIOR TENNIS DEVELOPMENT
Midtown offers a variety of programs tailored expressly for junior tennis players ages 3-18. The USTA (United States Tennis Association) has recognized Midtown as a pioneer in the field of 10 and Under Tennis, and an industry leader in adapting to the needs of younger players, helping them develop their playing skills.
Midtown Rochester offers the following programming for juniors:
TENNIS EXPLORERS AGES 3 AND 4
A preschool tennis program that establishes a foundation for motor skill development; additionally, general, basic movement and coordination skills are introduced.
LEVEL 7 AGES 4 AND 5
Games are an important part of the program, and the children are exposed to games that are both fun and tennis-related to increase their movement, balance, and basic coordination.
LEVEL 6 BEGINNER AGES 6 – 7
This is a program of movement, balance, coordination and motor skill development. The focus is on self- and partner-rallying skills on a smaller court to start the foundation of the child’s future tennis development.
LEVEL 5 ADVANCED BEGINNER AGES 7 – 8
By the end of this program, a child is able to play tennis and use a full or abbreviated serving motion. The children learn how to move effectively to insure good positioning and balance for each shot.
LEVEL 4 INTERMEDIATE AGES 8– 9
Children learn the basics of tactical play for both singles and doubles with an emphasis on swing rhythm for forehands and backhands.
LEVEL 3 ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE AGES 9-11
Children refine their tactical and technical skills by learning the concepts of offense and defense in both singles and doubles.
LEVEL 2 ADVANCED AGES 10 – 12
Children are exposed to a full range of technical and tactical development.
JV/INTERMEDIATE AGES 12 – 18
For those teenagers who are relatively new to tennis, the class focuses on the 5 play situations and developing tactical and technical skills.
PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS
These sessions give your child the personal attention and customized exercises they need. Let them learn from the best to find their potential.
JUNIOR COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS
LEVEL 1 AGES 11-18
Students improve consistency in their strokes and develop court presence with situational training and a play based approach.
TOURNAMENT TRAINING/ HIGH PERFORMANCE AGES 12 -18
This class is geared towards the more serious team athlete or tournament competitor. Competitive drills and situational point play is used to reinforce sound tactics and to achieve peak performance.
